Professional House Painting and Cabinets

As we covered previously, there are a lot of reasons to get a professional house painter to give your kitchen cabinets a new look.
They will give you a smooth surface when they paint your cabinets. Brushes and rollers sometimes end up giving you bumps on the surface. It may be due to the fact that the surface was not well cleaned or the paint mixture was nit well mixed into an even homogeneous fluid. Professional painters have the advantage of having the experience to understand all this. The surfaces of the cabinets in most cases are not even. They may have some impurities. Professionals will come with the right tools to make the surface clean and ready for the rollers or brushes then they apply the layers of the paint right. That is how you get a smooth finish.
They can get you the flawless surface that you need. Cabinet corners and joints will definitely be a problem when you are doing the painting. Unless you know how to do it, this will turn out to be a challenge. You need to caulk and mask trip to achieve crisp, flawless corners and joints. Doing this is not easy. It requires some good workmanship and the rights equipment. You need to be keen and take consideration on every detail of the job. Professional painters will let you have this with ease because they understand the process of getting over this hurdle.

Cabinet Painting and Preparation

The right preparation gives the right results. Ever tried to Google you way through cabinet painting? You will realize different blogs and websites give different procedure of preparing to get the desired finish. You can end up being confused not knowing what to do when to get what you need. There is no specific procedure of preparation. Professionals know this and they follow a particular procedure of preparing the surface depending on the design of the cabinet and the type of paint to be applied. There easiest way of going through this essential process is getting hold of a professional painter and letting him or her do the work for you.
How often does one do painting? Compared to the length of time that you will need your cabinet to have that stunning look, it is better to let the pro do the work. Professional Cabinet Painting:  There is a Difference

Why should you hire a professional painter in Gilbert  to paint your cabinets?  Painting looks like a pretty simple job. Sometimes you may think that as an amateur painter, you can do your cabinet painting with ease and get the right results that you desire. However, wait until you try it. It is not a simple process. You may end up calling a professional to do it for you. He will do it for you but you will have wasted some time and money trying to do it yourself.
The best advice I will always give people who desire to have an new look for the cabinets, get a professional to at least do your cabinets. You can do the other places in your home especially those that are simple to paint and do not need much attention to detail. Cabinets are different because they demand more. Here are a number of reasons why you will find a professional painter appropriate for the job.

The Reasons for Professional Cabinet Painting

They organize their painting. The most important aspect when doing some painting job is organization. You need to start in the right place and end in the right place. The organization actually depends on the kind of cabinets that are getting the paint job and the way that they are designed. A professional painter will look at the surface and the design and know exactly how to organize the job such that it flows easily and no conflict arises. This is developed out of experience and skills development.
A professional house painter gets the work done faster. One aspect of painting that matters most is how long it takes to complete the work and get a perfect look. When doing the painting, the least time possible should be taken so that you have time to let the surface dry up fast and in the right way. You will never beat a professional in achieving this. You need professionals to do the painting fast and have your cabinets dry and ready for use within the shortest time possible.

Professional House Painters: What a Pro Can Do For You (Contd)

A professional knows a lot of painting tricks...
painted wall
Find the best house painter here.

Professional Painting Tricks

Here are some more painting tricks from a painting pro.
Scrape the ridge on texture ceiling. If you are doing textured ceilings, one of the challenges that you will face is having paint (small amounts) extend to the ridge. Professionals do not have that with their work. Their simple secret is after they are done with the painting, just before the paint is wet, they do the scraping. Using a screwdriver or any other sharp object, they scrape away the paint that would have extended to the ridge. It does the magic. It is simpler than you think and gives you a perfect finish.
Employ canvas as drop cloths.
Most people use bed sheets or cotton materials as drop cloths. The problem is, the paint will seep through your floor if you use these materials. You will think that you will have covered your floor perfectly only to realize that there are some paint stains on the floor. Professionals will always use canvas. They know this shortcoming of cotton and that is why they avoid it. Canvas on the other hand will not allow paint to sip through. The floor will remain clean and that is why they make the work look easier.
They do wall to wall. Professionals do one wall before they proceed to another. Look carefully, you will realize that professionals give all their attention to one wall and ensure that the surface is perfectly done before they move to the next wall. This technique enables them to focus on the surface one at a time rather than the house. It also makes them encouraged because they do not focus on how big the house is by trying to picture the whole job. This technique is good when doing painting on a house that is occupied.
Professionals do not tape windows. To make their work easier, professionals do not tape windows. They would rather do the painting and let the paint spill on the window. They will then scrape the paint off. However, you will need a specific tool for this. You need something that will not cause scratches on the surface of the window. A razor blade will do the work.
These are just a few tips on the difference between a professional painter and an amateur on how they do their painting. Following all these does not mean that you are now a professional but they point on how professionals make their work easier. You really should get a professional house painter to do the work for you.

Professional House Painters: What a Pro Can Do For You

There are several reasons why a professional house painter is someone that you really should consider hiring when it's time to paint.  First off, they know a lot of painting tricks that you can't even begin to guess at.
House Painters Bring Professionalism to the Job...
House Painters Bring Professionalism to the Job...

House Painters and the Professional Touch

Want some reasons to hire a professional painter?  For one thing, professional painters will do the work fast and efficiently. This is simply because they have mastered the techniques that bring out the best out of the surface that is worked on. It might look easy from the perspective of a person who is simply viewing the work done, but this is because professional painters follow some procedures and steps that make their work easier and efficient. I will share with you some of the secrets that professional painters put on their work but that is not enough to give you that professional work.
Sand  flaws away. Before you begin painting to give out the perfect look, one needs to start with a smooth surface. Professionals have known this. The ultimate look of the surface is subject to how you started the job. To make the surface smooth and ready for the first coat, professional painters will use sand paper to clean the surface. Sand will remove all the impurities, bumps, and other textures that will make the final output look bad. This has to be done right to end up with e perfectly smooth painted wall.
Use a putty knife when taping surfaces. You might have wondered how come professionals usually don't  have paint smudges or over flows on surface that are not supposed to be painted. You thought you figured it out when you discovered tape but you still get paint extending to the covered surface or leaving some spaces unattended. The answer is not on just using the tape to cover the surface, but it is how you do it. Using a putty knife to ensure that the tap is firmly and precisely held onto the corners of the surfaces that are to be covered makes it work. You simply press the putty knife on the edges of the tapes that are covered. In a later article, we will cover more tips and tricks

Hiring a Painter:  Protect Your Investment

Hiring a painter also protects your investment.  Look at someplace like a kitchen for example.  There are so many surfaces that can be ruined if splattered by paint.  Do you really want to replace a glass range top for example because you managed to spill paint on it, or have to call a stone restoration surface to repair the damage you caused to your granite countertop which is a now a cheery yellow color?
Can a painter make mistakes?  Of course.  Painters are human beings.  It's just that with a pro, when he goes to paint your home, he has a lot more experience to work with.

Why Hire a Pro for Interior Painting?

Why should you hire someone for interior painting?  Painting either the exterior or interior of your house helps it achieve an aesthetic appeal. Many people always think that in painting a house all you need is a brush and paint, but in real sense it requires much more than that. To get the best value for your money, it is therefore, advisable to hire professional painting contractors. There are several reasons why you should consider hiring professional painters.
1. Quality results
Given that anyone can just go to the store and buy a brush and paint, there is much more to it than just that. Your objective here is to increase your house value and improve look, rather than to scratch up paint and color change. It is therefore, always important to hire professionals who can give your home that quality result. For best look of your home, you should hire a professional painter.
2. New interior ideas
For latest painting technologies, for interior, exterior or both, professional painters are always up on them. They can advice you on the best interior or exterior paint depending on your house’s location and design. In addition, they can help you with colors that are specific to different rooms of your home depending on the purposes of the rooms. As you can see professionals can help you see beyond just color picking, as they can help you identify best painting suggestions that help create feel, function and look that you need.
3. Professional painters are insured
Another good reason of hiring a professional painter is that they are insured and licensed. In the event that anything goes wrong during painting, it can be corrected because they are insured so you would not encounter losses. This will help settle your mind, but can be different if you do the job yourself.
So it all boils down to a collection of things that makes a difference where painting is concerned.  First off, when you contract with a professional, it isn't just a luxury, it's practically a necessity.
And a professional house painter also has a fairly substantial level of experience as well as knowledge to work with.

Find the Right Painter for Exterior House Painting (Contd.)

There is a lot that you need to be aware of when you want to pick a house painter in your area.  There is also a question of your health and safety.  Why?  Well, older homes have an extra risk that may not have occurred to you.
Call a House Painter in Your Area

Older Homes and House Painting

Be aware that if you have an older home there is a chance that the house has lead based paint. A seasoned exterior house painter will have the knowledge of how to proceed and the best way to dispose of substances to minimize danger.  A painter will also know the best way to prevent risks to maintain safety while finishing a quality paint job. The professional painter will have tools and materials unique to painting an older house with lead based paint. After gathering estimates and interviewing, choose the most suitable professional painter for the job. Pick the painter that has the most effective mix of pricing as well as experience. You are going to work closely with this particular individual to convey specs and color selection, so make sure to decide on someone you're comfortable speaking with. An excellent painter can be sure that the job is completed correctly. However, don't get locked on someone right away either.

House Painters: Shop Around

Asking around is another way to get an excellent painter. There are a wide variety of resources that you can use, such as review sites, word of mouth from friends and family and more.  Those who are satisfied using a specific painter will likely be ready to refer them to others. If you are pleased with the painter’s work, be sure to keep their contact info handy in the event you have another job or know someone else who is looking for a good painter.
After selecting a professional painter, determine if you'd like your home to be hand sprayed or brushed. If left up to the painting company, many will choose to spray the house due to it being quicker and simpler. However, if you have wood siding or an older home, you might want to think about asking to get a quote that includes brush painting. Remember that painting by brush is time intensive and can cost additional money.
It's vital to seek out the appropriate painter for the job whether you should paint the inside or outside of your house. Having an experienced house painter will make sure that the work your house painter does is of high quality and performed in a timely manner.

Find the Right Painter for Exterior House Painting

So it is time to paint the outside of your home. This, needless to say, is among many high-priced pains to having a house and one which home-owners must deal with every six to eight years, depending on the exterior of your home. Here are some helpful hints that will help you throughout the procedure.
Hire a Exterior House Painter for Professional Results

Before You Paint Your Home

Before the painting even begins, ascertain if there is any prep work that must be done. Be sure to take this chance to correct any problems beforehand, such as rotted siding or damaged door or window trims. Professional exterior house painting contractors will provide much needed expertise in this area, which is one of many reasons why you should consider hiring one. Be sure that the carpenter or the painter changing your siding is utilizing the exact same style and size you now have on your house.
Another thing to consider before beginning the painting is to determine if you would like to take this chance to alter the color of your home. Upgrading the color may add spice to your home. Make sure they match other colors that are already being used around your house. Examples include the landscaping, soffits, as well as the roof. The selected colors should compliment your home to its surroundings. Additionally, be aware that changing the color scheme of your house will often result in a price increase of the project. This is mainly due to it requiring extra coats to cover the old color. Each coat of painting will cost additional money.

What To Know Before you Get a House Painter

Get several estimates for the job. Be sure that the quotes contain details of what's included, cost for the labor, and an estimated completion date for the work. Be sure to have a guarantee included for touch ups if necessary. Once the job is completed, you should have a comprehensive walk through with the painter before accepting the work. Be sure to have the details of every painter in order to ask follow-up questions.

Interview each contractor to find out that they will have the appropriate expertise with your kind of paint job. Request references and follow-up on these to ensure they have a sound client foundation of customers that are happy. Request to see images of work previous examples to help you visualize the kind of job they perform.

Picking a painter can also involve a bit of caution, particularly if you have an older home...

Special Effect Painting Tricks (Contd.)

Interior painting doesn't have to be boring.  Sometimes, some painting tricks can totally transform your paint job into a classy project.  Such as adding metal finishes to your interior paint job.
Get the right paint and paint finish
Get the right paint and paint finish

Painting Tip:  A Metal Finish

Your local painting contractor will be able to help you remodel your home with tips like this one from the Do It Yourself Network:
"METAL FINISHES FOR WALLS
The first step in applying a metallic glaze to a wall is to paint the wall with a base coat of interior latex paint in a color that will complement the glaze. Silver, copper and gold metallic glazes applied over a base coat of ivory give a look that's streaky and lacks depth.
A base coat close in color to the metallic glaze will complement it. Rich color results when a metallic silver glaze is applied over a gray base coat. A reddish-brown undercoat works well with a copper metallic glaze, and a dark-mustard base coat brings out the color in a gold metallic glaze finish.
It's tricky to apply metallic-finish paints without streaks. Do-it-yourselfers will get better results when using metallic glazes in small areas as accent colors. To glaze a large surface, apply the glaze with a spray gun or hire a professional to do the job." [READ SOURCE]
This is just one trick that a painting contractor can easily do. If you were to buy actual metal plates, your paint job would probably be very expensive, depending on the type of metal that you're using of course.
Another trick that you can do to a paint job is a crackle finish, which makes it look old fashioned and timeless.

The Professional Painting Contractor Difference

Can you do all this on your own? Yes and no. You can try to paint your home by yourself, but you have to know what you're doing. You also have to know the answers to a bunch of questions. What type of paint are you using? Acrylic? Enamel? Both? What sort of paint finish do you want? Gloss, Semi-gloss or flat? The answers to these questions really matter, because it can effect everything from how your paint looks to how stain-resistant it is.So remember, your professional painting contractor can help you with everything from touch-ups to new paint jobs.
When it's time to paint, go for someone local. Local businesses help to keep money in the community. And a local painting contractor is someone you can trust to remodel your home in a beautiful and affordable way.

Interior Painting Tricks

Who said that interior painting has to be boring? First off, one thing that is a cheap, easy, and lovely way to decorate a room using paint is to use stencils and color washes. You can give your room a lovely accent piece by stenciling a floral pattern or maybe some lines of a lighter color. And don't forget color washing.
According to this article excerpt from Wikipedia:
"A color wash is a popular technique in faux painting using paint thinned out with glaze to create a subtle wash of color over walls or other surfaces. Color washing is an easy and forgiving form of faux finishing often used by beginners, but perfected by professional finishers. It was historically created with oil-based products because of the long drying time, but today's environmental and health conscious companies are producing user-friendly water based glazes. Color washing can be done in any color of paint and is generally applied with brushes over a solid paint color, using long sweeping strokes to meld the glaze colors together. [READ SOURCE ARTICLE]
Here's a fun painting tip for a family room or a kid's room. Paint the ceiling to look like the sky. Maybe paint it to be sky blue with some clouds, or maybe paint all of the constellations and have the night sky. Does your painting surface have a lot of imperfections? The you might want to try fresco. If you're curious, the ancient Romans did it, as did a lot of medieval churches. Not feeling much like DaVinci? Then you may want to use some contrast tricks

Painting Tricks: Color and Contrast

Color blocking is a cool trick. Have a wall that's just kind of blah, such as in a hallway? Paint the wall a contrasting color to the end of the hallway. Another way to use color blocking is to use dramatic contrasts as well. And it is amazing how much something as simple as new paint can totally transform a room.  These are just some of the interior painting tricks you can play with.
There is a lot of information out there regarding paint. When in doubt, don't give up in frustration and confusion. Instead, get in touch with someone who can help you. Call someone with a design background, or better and probably cheaper yet, call a professional house painter.

Painting Tips from The Old World

Areas that are often overlooked with homes are the doors and window trim.  For this painting tip, it's a good idea to go on a bit of a field trip to Europe.  Why Europe?  Because in Europe, they always paint their doors and windowsills to either complement each other or match one another.  And colors have a lot to say.
As we covered in our last article, you want to think about your door as well.  A red door sends a "welcome" message to  the world. Red is vibrant, and you can find red doors all over Europe.  They look good on a posh London townhouse, on a villa in Barcelona, or a sleepy farmhouse in Marseilles.  Ireland has them too.  But another color that may or may not surprise you that is really popular as a front door color in Ireland is emerald green.  The use of color always sends a message, but sometimes, some colors convey a contrary message. Black for example is often regarded as a grim color, but it may surprise you. A black door with polished brass fittings or maybe a window at the top doesn't say "spooky" it says "elegant." If you match your window trim to your door, it ties your home together aesthetically. Do all door colors go well everywhere? Of course not. The color of your door and/or window trim should never detract from the rest of your home or clash. If your home is painted in earth tones, adding purple doors and trims will cause most people to wince. Going the other way to bright oranges yellows and reds will make people think that you're opening a fast food restaurant. When in doubt, ask your local painter for advice. Most of the time, these professionals will have a great eye for color and where and how to use it.

Painting Tips for The Outside of Your Home

Remember, that when you're dealing with exterior house painting, less is more. Unlike your home's interior where you can play with color a lot more, if you paint too many colors on the outside of your home, most people are going to think it will be too garish. A good rule of thumb is 2, maybe 3 colors, all of which should complement one another.
So remember, when you want a new paint job for your home, you should consider painting both your home's outside as well as its interiors. And make sure you call a professional house painter.

Paint Colors:  Interior Painting Made Easy

If you are going to paint a room in your home, both the walls and the ceilings should always be the same exact color.  Right?  Wrong.  For example, painting your ceiling a darker shade of the same color gives your room the illusion of more space.  Another trick that you can do is to paint a wall that gets a lot of sunlight a brighter color to add a more cheery touch to your space.  And what about weird angles?  A lot of homes have them.  Painting that wall a solid color will help to delineate that section, and give your room a nice flow.  You also want to vary your paint finish depending on your walls and trim
Painting your walls and your trim the same color is a fairly new painting trick, but it also has the advantage of allowing you to differentiate your paint finish.  Paint your walls in flat, and your trim in semi-gloss or gloss paint.  Paint is a truly wondrous way of redecorating, particularly if you know the tricks.

Tricks with Paint

For example, if you want a room to seem larger, paint the ceiling a lighter shade of your wall color.  Lighter colors give the illusion of expanding space, while darker colors make larger spaces seem more intimate and cozy.  Another thing that is really popular is to paint your walls different colors for a vibrant and alive feel.  Paint is more than just decorative however, it also helps to coat your plaster and other building materials with a protective coating as well.  Why do you think they paint bridges and ships?  Paint helps to keep metal from oxidizing.
Obviously this is more important for exterior paint, but the principles hold true for internal paint as well.

So remember, that we live in a world with millions of colors.  As such, why not play around with these colors.  You don't have to things the way that they've always been done.  You can be an artist if you like.  For your home is one of the best ways to show the world who and what you are.  And calling a house painter in Gilbert is a good way to begin.

What About Exterior Painting?

How do I select my exterior paint color? Before you go to the hardware store to pick up your paint, you want to be aware of a few things.  First off is there anything like stained wood, stonework, or brick in place?  What color is the roof of your home?   Painting a home charcoal gray when your roof is pale pink ceramic tile will end up being an eyesore.
You want to make sure all the colors work together.  You also have to be aware of the rules of your community if any.  Some housing tracts or communities have limits on what can be used for an external paint color.  If you don't have any restrictions on what colors you can use, how you use colors will determine how your house looks as well.  If you use lighter colors, it will make a home that is small seem bigger, just as a darker color will make the house seem to be smaller and more intimate.  If your home is smaller another trick to make it appear larger is if you paint your trim the same color as the rest of the exterior.  Light colors are better in warm climates because they don't absorb heat as much and last longer, while darker colors are better for cooler climates.  When you're going to do the outside, you also want to make sure you get enough paint

How Do You Know If You've Got Enough Paint?

You need a clear idea of how much paint you will need. This is easier than you might think.  First off, calculate your surface area.  Now, divide it by the coverage rate of the paint you have.  It's always better to have a bit more paint than you need rather than not enough.   You want about 2 quarts of point left over.  That way, if you need to touch up your paint later on you can.  Be aware that some types of paint are returnable if they've not been opened.  Paints that have been tinted, however, aren't returnable.
Another thing you want to take into account is the sort of surface that you're painting.  A textured surface such as stucco is probably going to need more paint than a flat surface.  When in doubt, ask the advice of a professional house painter.

House Painting: FAQs and Fun Facts Part 2

House Painting Questions

How do I select an interior paint color?  It depends on what you want to do with the room. If you have a room that has poor lighting, then you want to go for a light color. Light colors also make a room look bigger and more open.  But what about darker colors?
Dark colors are great for intimacy, and for stark contrasts and are great for really large rooms as they give the illusion of making too large of a space seem smaller and more homey.  Brighter colors are good for adding cheer to a room. Warm colors such as reds, yellows, and oranges bring the walls closer making a room seem smaller, while on the other hand, cooler colors such as violets, blues, and greens create the illusion of a larger room.  Earth tones are great bridging colors and give a room an air of relaxation and class.  However, sometimes, there are other tricks that you can use to paint a room in your home.

Interior House Painting Tricks

If you have a square room, paint the first wall that someone sees when they walk into a room a different color than the other walls.  This will give the room a nice look while helping to make it look less like a box.  If a room is long and narrow, painting shorter walls a darker color makes the room seem more homey as well.
Some people even opt for a room of many colors.  One of our clients, for example, painted each interior wall a different color than the others.  It made for a festive and beautiful living space.  So remember, painting isn't just about picking the shade and the sheen, it is about using your imagination.  With literally millions of colors and finishes to choose from, you can redecorate your home the easiest way possible: by painting your home.

How are painting job estimates calculated? First off, you need to call a painter.  Once you've got them on the phone, they often do an on site estimate which should include your parts and labor.  The key to getting the correct amount on your estimate is to prepare beforehand by making of list of what needs to be painted.  Whether you need external house painting or you want to paint a room or rooms on the inside.  You want to have picked your colors and finishes as well as what budget you have to work with.   You also want to decide if you want to split up the job and do it all at once.
What will a painter use to paint my home?  It depends on the job.  Walls, ceilings, and trims are usually painted with a combination of brushes and rolls.  Exterior paint is a combination of rollers and sprayers.

How to Prepare for Interior Painting

How do I prepare for internal painting?  Move anything fragile or breakable, or anything such as electronic equipment.  Make sure that all areas that need to be painted are accessible by the contractor.  Do you need to put down plastic tarps?  It depends on the job, and as a rule, we do that.  You want to make sure that you are present for the painter for any questions, and to make sure that the areas are unlocked and easy to get to.
How fast does paint dry?  It depends on the paint.  Some paints dry in mere minutes, while others take a few hours.  You want to make sure that you don't touch the paint for a day to be sure, however.  Particularly if you are using a low gloss finish.  So remember, that painting is more than just picking the color and the finish, it is knowing what to do before  you call a painting contractor.

Interior House Painting: Paint Your Bedrooms

Part two of our series on interior house painting focuses on your home's bedrooms.

What Color Should I Paint My Master Bedroom

What color should I paint my master bedroom? We get that question a lot. The paint color is just the beginning.
You also want to make sure you pick the right paint finish for your master bedroom as well. As we covered in one of our previous articles, the paint finish is as important if not more so than the color you choose. The higher the level of gloss, the easier it is to clean, however, it also increases the light reflection in a room. So a flat finish should be considered as the ideal finish for your master bedroom. After all, when you're trying to sleep, you don't need the reflections from your 48" plasma TV's LED lights to make an artificial starfield on the walls of your room. But if you're thinking of color, you want to consider one thing. You will be using your master bedroom for sleeping.
Do not use bright or garish colors in your bedroom unless you are putting it in as an accent wall or some other piece. The reason is the subconscious effect that color has. Painting your room a loud color can be potentially unsettling, and make for less than a restful sleep. And yes the same holds true for your kids.

Painting Your Kids' Rooms

Here's a little scenario for you to think about. Let's say you have two kids, a boy and a girl. Your sixteen year old son wants to paint his room. He has picked a bright scarlet red for two walls, and a bright saffron orange for two other walls. As for the ceiling. That's the best part: bright fluorescent lime-green. First off, calm down. Remember, paint isn't permanent. However, unless you want a teenager that's cranky every morning because he can't sleep, you may want to nudge him towards something a little more sedate. And before he asks, no you won't paint his room black and red either. Now your eleven year old daughter also wants to paint her room. She is picking a room color that will make her brother avoid her room even more than he already does: namely princess pink.
While it is a good thing to encourage your children to develop their individuality, work with them as far as color is concerned.
So remember, when you want to redo your home, one way that is time tested is a new paint job. And you want to make sure you call the right person to do it, namely a professional and experienced house painter in your area

What Color Should I Paint My Living Room?

What color should you paint your living room? Well, that depends on a lot of factors. You may decide to paint the room in a solid color.
According to the site This Old House though: "One way to go, however, is to use a complementary color scheme. Proving the rule that opposites attract, these pairings can always be found at opposite ends from each other on a paint color wheel. When put together, they bring out the best in each other, making both colors look cleaner and brighter than if either were mixed with, say, a neutral gray or a different shade of the same hue. An essential tool for paint pros everywhere, the color wheel is constructed to help you see the relationships between different hues. The bases are three primary colors: red, blue and yellow. These are then combined to make the three secondary colors: orange, green, and purple. Finally, the remaining six colors on the wheel are known as tertiary colors and are mixes of the secondary colors, including such hues as red-orange and blue-green. [READ MORE]
How can you tell if a color will look good in a room?  A paint strip is no sure indicator.  It can look good in the store, however, the minute you slap it on a wall you not only have buyer's remorse, you're also stuck with several cans of paint.  A good way to tell is to paint a small section of wall, and look at it both in low light, and with the drapes wide open.  That way you get a fair assessment.

Interior Painting: Some Final Thoughts

Whenever you're painting, you want to make sure that you not only get the color you're looking for,  you also want the paint finish you want as well.  Where finishes are concerned, the higher the gloss, the easier it is to clean, however, some finishes don't look good in some rooms of your home.  You always want to take into account what the room will look like when you're done.
Remember, you're an individual.  You know better than anyone what sort of colors you like.  If you're someone who likes gem tone colors such as ruby, magenta, topaz, and peridot, then earth tones such as sand, heather, and mahogany aren't going to cut it.  And when you're ready, call a house painter in your area.

Paint Finishes: What You Should Know

Interior house painting isn't just about what colors to pick.  It is also how you want to finish the paint job.

How to Pick the Right Paint Finish for a Room

Do you know how to pick the right paint finish for a room? There are four main paint finishes to choose from. There is flat, eggshell, semi gloss, and gloss Let's start with a flat finish. Flat or matte finish has a low shine level, and doesn't reflect light the way a gloss or semi gloss finish does. It is the best choice for walls that have flaws such as bumps or bubbles in the plaster or drywall. Flat finish works well on rougher surfaces such as textured walls, however, be aware that it should not be used on more high traffic areas such as a kitchen or bathroom because it's very hard to keep a flat finish clean.

Our next interior paint finish to cover is eggshell. Eggshell, or as it is sometimes known, satin finish, is very popular. Eggshell has a bit more luster than flat does, but it is more stain resistant and easily wiped with a wet rag. It is ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, and other high traffic areas such as the kids'rooms. but what about paint finishes that reflect more light such as semi-gloss and gloss?

Semi-Gloss and Gloss Paint Finishes

Semi-gloss is durable, doesn't show wear as bad and is very reflective.  However, be aware that if you have any flaws on your wall surface such as bumps or what have you, it will make them stand out as if someone turned on a floodlight.  Semi-gloss is often used for door trims, doors themselves, and in some cases for wooden furniture. While semi-gloss is good on door and window trims as well as furniture, gloss is a better choice.  Don't use gloss paint  on your walls however, unless they are perfectly smooth.  A good place to paint gloss paint is in a place with indirect light so it doesn't make your room overpowering.

Picking a hot paint color for this year is only part of your remodeling project.  You also want to make sure you get the right type of paint for your room, as well as the right finish.

So remember, your paint finish is determined based on a few main factors.  You want to consider how easy it is to clean up, how much shine it has, and where it is appropriate to put the finish.  When in doubt call a house painter in Gilbert or in your local area for help.
