Don't Forget to Paint Your Banisters (Hire a Local Painter in Tucson AZ)

Do you know that there are over eight steps to paint your banisters in your home?

shutterstock_539955991Why You Should Hire a House Painter in Tucson to Paint Your Banisters

A  is more than just someone that shows up to paint your home. He is a licensed painting contractor, and there is so much he knows about painting than you do.
For example, he knows all about exterior painting. He will know what paint to use, and what paint to avoid, whether or not to use primer, and the best way to paint stucco. In addition to exterior painting, he will know all about interior painting as well. Interior painting has a different list of criteria than painting the exterior of your home. A painting contractor can not only tell you what paint to use, what colors to use for accents and what finishes to use, he will know very well how to paint your banisters.

How Hard Is It To Paint Your Banisters?

As we covered above, there are eight steps. For your information, here are just four of the steps. Right after you protect any carpet near your stairwell:
  1. Clean your banister handrail with de-greaser as well as a strong cleaner.  Why?  well, your banisters are touched a lot, pretty much every single day.  Every time someone touches your banisters, they leave behind skin oil, sweat, dirt, which forms essentially people grease.  Over time, people grease accumulates. To clean your banister, scrub it thoroughly, than rinse the banister Follow all label directions and warnings on the cleaner you choose. Rinse the handrail with clean water to remove any leftover residue.
  2. Next, scrape your handrail  to remove any paint defects such as bubbles, chips, or loose paint.  You will want to sand your handrail too and fill any flaws or dents in the handrail with wood putty. Use your fingers to apply and smooth the putty. Don't paint until the putty is dry.  A good way to tell is to allow the putty to dry overnight.
  3. Sand your banister again.  But this time you're getting rid of any excess wood putty.
  4. You want to make sure that you cover your banister borders in painter’s tape where they meet the bottom of the handrail. If the handrail touches the wall, apply painter’s tape to the wall to protect the wall from paint. Spread a drop cloth along the stairs beneath the handrail.

Your Professional Painter in Gilbert: What You Need to Know to Paint Your Home

There are several things that you need to know in order to paint your home in Gilbert successfully.

Types of Paint Used For Interior Painting in Gilbert

If you're looking at doing interior painting in Gilbert, it's a good idea to know a bit about paint, and more to the point, the types of paint used for interior painting.
Interior painting requires much different paints than exterior painting does.  In addition, certain times of year are better to paint your home than others are.
According to the site Do It Yourself, there are six different typefs of paint used in interior painting. Here are the first three:
"1. Matte Paint
Matte color is the most common of interior wall paints. There’s no shine or sheen to the finish, making it ideal for walls and ceilings where you don't want any visual distractions. It’s easy to apply, although it can often take more than a single coat to create a good solid color. Matte paint can be applied with a brush or roller and works well covering imperfections on your walls. This makes it ideal for older houses. On the downside, matte paint is easily marked. Although some marks can be removed with a damp cloth, matte paint needs regular retouching.
2. Matte Enamel
Matte enamel is very much like matte paint, but tends to be far more durable. It’s much easier to clean and rarely needs retouching, giving it a great advantage, especially if you have young children. It is also excellent for the kitchen, where you’ll regularly need to wipe the walls. The visual effect is very similar to matte paint and it can be applied in the same way.
3. Satin
Satin finish is one of the types of interior wall paint that many people know of, but few really understand. The finish is somewhere between matte and gloss and produces a low, soft sheen. This makes it ideal for areas where you’ll need to clean the walls regularly; however, you shouldn’t use a satin finish where you have a wall with imperfections because it will make them more apparent."[VIEW SOURCE]

Is Do It Yourself Painting Better?

Although trying to attempt this task in a do it yourself fashion sometimes seems like the cheaper option, it really isn’t. The duration that it will take you to complete the task cannot be compared to the speed and efficiency of a painting contractor. Ensuring that your property is protected from messes and spills is always a hard task to try to master by yourself and often the excess paint splatters and spillage are very difficult to clean up and you sit with a problem that you then need to hire another professional to clean up.
You have made the decision to paint your home, do it properly the first time and hire that contractor. You will not save money by any means by trying to attempt the task on your own and in fact it will possibly cost you more in the long term.
This is your home and it is possible the greatest asset you will ever own in your lifetime. Treat it as such and give it the attention and respect it deserves.  One way?  Hire a professional painter in Tucson

How Do You Paint Paradise? Hire a Tucson Painter (Contd.)

Painting paradise is merely a matter of finding the best painter in Tucson.

How Do I Find the Best Painter in Tucson?

As we covered previously, hiring a painting contractor can be one of the most important decisions you make regarding your home and it should be a well informed and researched decision. There is no better way to get the nitty-gritty on a painting contractor than by talking to previous clients and getting their feedback on the service rendered and the quality delivered.
Inquire about the length of time the Tucson painter has been in the industry as this will give you an indication of their experience and hopefully knowledge gained during those years. You need to ensure that they are in possession of the required licenses and are registered with the state. You can ill afford to be held accountable for injuries due to their own possible negligence.

Licensed Professional Painters in Tucson

If the contractor is registered to any kind of painting contractors board, this is a huge plus as only reputable companies are registered with these corporations. Always ascertain beforehand that the contractor performs all the work himself and that he will not be sub contracting the work out to a possible cheaper and inexperienced painter. Request references for previous work done and contact number and addresses. Don’t leave it at that, make the necessary calls or visit the homes to see first hand what you can expect when your job is completed. Always request written guarantees for the work to cover yourself for any issues that may arise in a short time span after the work is completed and of course ask the contractor to specify what product he has quoted on and if it is not what you require then you need to specify and allow him a chance to adjust his price accordingly.
When interviewing or getting a quote you should take each contractor on a walk through and go over every room that has to be painted and exactly what areas need to be attended to so that everybody is on the same page with regards to scope. Discuss final color schemes and ensure that all requirements are understood.
It's all in the process.  That's how you know you've found the best painter in Tucson.

Exterior Painting Vs. Interior Painting in Tucson: Color Choices

Is it time to paint your home in Tucson?  If so, there are a few things that you should know regarding your choice of colors.
The first step to making sure that you don't get into any trouble is to hire a house painter in Tucson to paint your home, particularly if you live in a historic district, or are part of a block association or homeowner's shutterstock_163305884association. You may not have too many options if you have a HOA or you live in a historical district, you may be limited in the colors that you can paint your home.

Why Won't My HOA Let Me Pick My Color?

We often get asked: "Why won't my HOA let me pick the color of my home?"  This question isn't completely accurate.  Your Homeowner's Association does give you some choice in the color of your home, but it has to fit into a narrow range of colors.  Why are they so limited?  Well, it has to do with property values.  There are some paints that look good in certain places, and some paints that don't.
If you have a beach house in Seal Beach, you can have a house that is Nantucket gray with white trim next to a bright yellow hippie themed shack with red trim.  And guess what? It works there. Beach cities are supposed to be eclectic and out of the ordinary.  However, most homes in HOAs are tract homes, and in the Southwest for example, a lot of them have terracotta or pink clay tile roofs.  Can you imagine a Spanish Olive Green house with a pink terracotta roof without wincing just a bit?  No?  Well Neither can we.  That's one reason to hire an Tucson painter.  To do his job, he has to have a good eye for shade.

How Do I Paint My Home Myself?

How do I paint my home myself?  We bet that's what you're asking right now.  Well you can, if...
  • You know the color choices available to you from your HOA if you have one, or city codes if you don't.
  • You know all about the prep work for painting your home.
  • You have no problem being up a ladder or a scaffold for hours at a time
  • You have the right safety equipment.
  • You know the difference between exterior and interior paint.
  • You have a good budget for paint, primer, sprayers, replacement timber to replace any rotten wood, brushes, and caulking.
These are just a few of the things you're going to need if you want to paint your home yourself.

Gilbert House Painters: In The House and Out

Gilbert painter is a consummate professional.  He will make your home look like it is a brand new place.

Hiring a Painter in Gilbert

Hiring a painter in Gilbert is easy, and it is also smart. As we covered previously, there is a very good reason to buy local whenever you can. More money stays in our local economy. Companies that are multi-state or multi-national only keep a small amount of money in their local communities.
However, another reason to go with a painter in Gilbert is that they know the extremes of Arizona's weather and they will also know what to use to paint your home. There is still the danger of lead-based paint.
According to this Wikipedia article excerpt: It is one of the main health and environmental hazards associated with paint. In some countries, lead continues to be added to paint intended for domestic use,[1] whereas countries such asthe U.S. and the U.K. have regulations prohibiting this, although lead paint may still be found in older properties painted prior to the introduction of such regulations. Although lead has been banned from household paints in the United States since 1978, paint used in road markings may still contain it. Alternatives such as water-based, lead-free traffic paint are readily available, and many states and federal agencies have changed their purchasing contracts to buy these instead. Lead paint is hazardous. It can cause nervous system damage, stunted growth, kidney damage, and delayed development.[6]It is dangerous to children because it tastes sweet, therefore encouraging children to put lead chips and toys with lead dust in their mouths. Lead paint is dangerous to adults and can cause reproductive problems in men or women. Decreases in sperm production in men have been noted. Lead is considered a possible and likely carcinogen. High levels may result in death." [READ SOURCE ARTICLE]

A Local Painter in Gilbert Is An Expert With Paint

While it is harder to get, hiring someone who isn't a licensed painting contractor increases your potential risk to lead paint exposure.  Even without being alarmist, there's another danger.  Someone that doesn't know what they're doing can give you a shoddy paint job.  If you live in a HOA, this could get you into trouble and require you to shell out more money.  Hire a Gilbert painter instead.

Save Money: Hire a Gilbert Painter to Paint Your Home (Contd.)

painting contractor in Gilbert can help you save a lot of money.
As we covered previously, professional house painters in Gilbert understand that preparing a home’s exteriors or interiors before painting is the most important step in the whole painting process.

shutterstock_329434934Why a Gilbert Painting Contractor Can Save You Time and Trouble

Ok, you picked out a color and you don't just like it, you love it! So you buy the paint, sniff at the idea of hiring a Gilbert painter, grab your ladder and your sprayer and you get the paint put on quickly.  But instead of being delighted, you're horrified. What happened?  Well, first off, you forgot to prep your paint surfaces. So instead of a smooth painting surface, you have one with nail heads, rotten wood, and bumps.  You also forgot to put tarps around and tape your windows and gutters.  So now, you have a paint line on your dining room window and roses that now have an extra color that has a good chance of killing them.  In addition, since you didn't put any primer down, your new coat of paint is likely to  fail very quickly. This, of course, will force you to spend (waste) more time and money to correct the mistake professionally.  If you had hired a professional house painter instead, all of this could have been avoided.
These experts will also ensure that your furniture, landscaping and other prized possessions in your home are properly protected before the painting begins.

Hire a Professional House Painter in Gilbert and Be Safe

Painting seems like an easy home improvement project that anyone can just wake up and start doing. But, have you ever thought about the dangers that come with this job? If you haven’t, then you should take a minute and listen to this. For starters, paints contain highly toxic substances that can be harmful when they are inhaled or come into contact with the skin. Painting contractors understand this and that’s why they take all the safety measures during paint preparation to ensure that they are safe as they do their job.
In addition, painting a home with multiple floors can be very dangerous too. The job requires focus and concentration, which is not easy to achieve when you’re not used to hanging several feet above the ground. Accidental falls can lead to serious injuries, destruction of property or even death when you choose to do everything yourself. The good news is that professional painters have all the tools (scaffolds, ladders etc.) that they need to do their work safely. This ensures that you and your family are safe.
While DIY painting may be fun to do, it can also be very tedious and long, especially when you are working on a big house. It’s even more stressful if you fail to get the results you wanted after spending so much time, effort and money.
So spend your money wisely.  Hire a local painter in Gilbert, AZ instead.

How to Paint Your Home (Conclusion)

Exterior house painting is more than just picking out paint samples. In order for your paint job to last and look good at the same time, there is a lot of prep work involved.

shutterstock_329434934There are a lot of steps to paint your home yourself.  From This Old House:
"After the sanding is done, it's time to fill minor cracks and dents, repair any rot, and replace any pieces that are too far gone. (Wholesale replacement of wood siding or trim will likely require a carpenter.)
O'Neil patches shallow holes and divots with Ready Patch because it dries fast, sands smooth, and stays flexible. Deep cracks and rotten spots are best repaired with two-step epoxies, such as those made by Advanced Repair Technology. (For a step-by-step instructions, see Repairing Rot with Epoxy.) The days of using polyester auto-body fillers on wood are over. "They cure too hard," says Portland, Oregon–based painting contractor Kathleen George. "They look good at first, but then they peel away."
Hold off on caulking the cracks until everything has been primed. "Primer protects the wood when—not if—the caulk fails," says O'Neil.
Primers are formulated to penetrate, seal, and provide a good surface for the top coats to stick to. Use them over bare wood, Spackle, and epoxy, or over paint with a chalky, deteriorated surface. (If the paint surface is clean and sound, you can skip the priming step.)
Acrylic primers can be used on most surfaces, but on cedar or redwood, oil-based coatings are a must because they lock in these woods' reddish-brown "extractives," which will leach out and leave behind rusty stains if the wood is primed with a water-based product.
Painters often tint primer close to the color of the top coat, but Wallis thinks that's a recipe for "holidays," or missed spots. Instead, he tints his primer a contrasting color. "If I can see the color coming through, I know I need to apply more paint," he says. On the cottage shown in this story, he chose a gray-blue primer to go under a peach top coat. [READ SOURCE]

How to Paint Your Home With a Tucson Painter (Contd.)

Do you think you know how to paint your home yourself? Think again.

Hire a Painter in Tucson and Stay Safe

Hire a Local Painter to Paint High Places
As we covered previously, there are even more steps when you're trying to paint your home yourself. Even more reason to hire a painter in Tucson.
From This Old House:
"Scraping paint by hand is a grueling task because you've got to attack it from every direction. But compared to power grinders and sanders, it's the least damaging way to remove the old layers. You can speed up the process by using a heating gun to soften the paint (as shown).
Safety First: Use a respirator when scraping paint by hand. Also, make sure you protect the surrounding work area—including any plants and shrubs—with a tarp covering.
With loose paint removed, it's time to step back and assess what remains. If most of the paint still adheres well and it's not too bumpy, the boundary between the paint and the bare wood can be smoothed with 50- or 80-grit sandpaper.
Small random-orbit or pad sanders make this job go faster. (Wallis first covers these boundaries with Synkoloid patching compound so no edge is visible after sanding.) As shown, you want to make sure that there is a feathered, smooth transition from exposed wood to old paint. For areas that might get close scrutiny, you can follow up with a 100- or 120-grit rubdown to erase any scratches.
If less than half the old paint is left, however, it may be worth stripping it all off. Guertin gets rid of stubborn remnants using shrouded grinders (like the PaintShaver), infrared paint strippers (such as the Speedheater), or chemical strippers (like Multi-Strip), then smooths the wood with a course or two of sanding. When siding (or bank accounts) can't take the shock of a total strip job, Rich O'Neil, of Masterwork Painting in Bedford, Massachusetts, has successfully hidden rough, well-adhered paint under Peel Bond, a thick primer." How to Paint Your Home With a Tucson Painter

A lot of times people ask us if we know how to paint their homes.  Well as your local painter in Tucson, we do.  And let us tell you, it's better for us to do it than for you to try it on your own.

How to Paint Your Home's Exterior: Hire  a Tucson Painter

Do you know how to paint your home's exterior?  Here are some tips from This Old House:
"A thorough scrubbing is a must before painting any exterior surface. It removes the dirt and broken-down paint residues that keep fresh coats from adhering and gets rid of mildew that grows on paint in all but the most arid climates. Most contractors clean with pressure washers, but in the hands of someone unfamiliar with the equipment, these can gouge wood, shatter glass, and drive water behind siding and trim. Using a hose, a pump sprayer, and a scrub brush is slower but safer, and just as effective.
Before the scrubdown, protect nearby plants by misting their leaves and saturating the surrounding soil with water, pulling them away from the house, and shrouding them in fabric drop cloths. (Plants will cook under plastic.) Lay more drop cloths along the base of the walls to collect any falling paint debris. Walls should be wet down before getting scrubbed, then washed with a gallon of water mixed with 1 cup chlorine bleach and 1 cup of either a concentrated, phosphate-free cleaner, such as a trisodium phosphate (TSP) substitute, or Jomax House Cleaner. Working in sections, from the bottom to the top, will avoid streaks. Be sure to rinse walls well before the solution dries. Wood siding and trim should be ready to paint after a day or two of dry weather.
Paint that has peeled, bubbled, or blistered has got to go. But if lead is present—a strong possibility in houses built before 1978—you need to proceed with extra care. To lay any doubts to rest, you can send paint chip samples to a lab, such as Macs Lab's Home Free; for about $38, they'll give you a definitive answer.
If your paint does contain lead, you'll need to take special precautions during the scraping and sanding phases to protect yourself, your family, and the environment from toxic dust. If the paint is lead-free, you need only don a dust mask and lay down tarps to catch debris before tackling the most crucial part of the project." [VISIT SOURCE]
That's just the first two steps.  There are even more steps when you're trying to paint your home yourself.  Even more reason to hire a Tucson painter.

House Painters in Tucson Know Their Paint

As we covered previously, a local painter is more than just a painting contractor. He is also a knowledgeable professional with both skills and experience. Continuing our list...
  1. local painter in Tucson knows paints
Choosing the right paint is more complicated than just picking between latex and oil paints. A professional painter knows what works for your house, unlike an amateur who doesn’t know the importance of using certain paints on particular parts of your home. This is why you should a hire a house painter who knows the right paint, wall coverings and coatings, plus the most trusted suppliers of the same.
  1. A house painter considers your health
I am almost convinced that not everyone knows that lead-based paints may be harmful when scrapped. But a professional painter knows that and they would take the right steps to protect you and your family from dangers of lead-based paints. If they have to disturb any lead-based paint during the preparation stage, they know they should provide you with EPA-produced leaflets to guide you.
  1. A house painter provides a post paint cleanup
If you DIY and you are an amateur, you are most likely going to end up painting more surfaces than intended. You may mess around and soil other surfaces with the paint. On the other hand, a professional painter will make less mess and they start the cleanup as soon as they are done with painting.

Wrapping Up:  The Best Reasons to Hire a Tucson Painting Contractor

  1. A house painter is insured and licensed
In case something goes wrong, most professional house painters are insured. Choosing a house painter who is both licensed and insure is advisable as anything that goes wrong can easily be compensated.
I hope now you are sure of why you should a hire a house painter next time you are painting. Remember painting is something they have specialized in. They can only best in it. With the right equipment, skills, experience and safety measures, you can be sure they will provide perfection. It may cost a number of bucks but that cannot be compared to the agony and pain of painting the house yourself when you are a mere amateur. Paying a house painter may seem as a luxury when you think that anybody else is as good as them. The truth is that anybody can attempt to paint a home, but only a house painter with the right skills and experience can bring out that precision, perfection and professional job. Hiring a professional house painter in Tucson is definitely worth the price.
